On Wednesday August 28, the California legislature passed a bill to regulate the powerful models of generative artificial intelligence (AI),<\/a> despite opposition from companies and elected officials who fear such regulation could stifle the nascent technology.<\/p>\n

“I’m proud of the diversity of the coalition that supported this bill, a coalition that believes deeply in innovation and safety,” Scott Wiener, the Democratic elected official who sponsored the text, said on X.<\/p>\n
