Meta has agreed to a $1.9 billion (US$1.4 billion) settlement with Texas in a privacy lawsuit, following allegations that the tech giant used users’ biometric data without their permission.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Tuesday that the agreement was the largest ever reached by a state.<\/p>\n

In 2021, a judge had approved a US$650 million settlement with the company, formerly known as Facebook, over similar complaints from Illinois users.<\/p>\n

“This historic settlement demonstrates our commitment to standing up to the world’s largest technology companies and holding them accountable for breaking the law and violating Texans’ privacy rights,” Paxton, a Republican, said in a statement.<\/p>\n
