abstract = {Multisensory virtual nature immersion has been shown to assist with mental health management. In this paper, we look at the benefits of two multisensory immersion modalities for patients diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The modalities include: (1) a portable solution that integrates scent diffusion within the head-mounted display (HMD), and (2) a pod-based solution, in which a multisensory pod provides olfactory and haptic feedback (i.e., wind and vibrations) alongside audio-visual information via the HMD. We assess the two methods subjectively, via numerous questionnaires, and objectively, via measures computed from electroencephalography signals. The pod-based intervention resulted in greater improvements in PTSD symptoms and in sustained attention, with improvements in several objective measures of user experience, including engagement, valence, arousal, and sense of immersion/presence. © 2025 IEEE.},

abstract = {Multisensory virtual reality immerses users in a virtual setting by stimulating all their senses. Coupled with artificial intelligence, next-generation communications, and human sensing technologies, the so-called Internet of Senses (IoS) will drive healthcare 5.0 applications for the betterment of humankind. Multisensory nature exposure experiences have already shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety. The integration of haptic technologies with olfactory stimuli could revolutionise remote medical applications, bringing specialised care to remote communities. Having this said, while the number of applications is numerous, we need to stop and think about the challenges that will arise, such as the environmental impact of developing and running these tools. Moreover, while these tools can increase accessibility to those that may have, for example, mobility issues, it can, on the other hand, limit usage for those with limited financial resources needed to run these tools. As such, do-it-yourself and/or open-source tools will be crucial to ensure equitable access worldwide. In this chapter, a description is given of the work done (and ongoing) by the author and his collaborators on how to enable healthcare 5.0 applications based on the IoS, how to better democratise them, and make them safer for users and the planet. © 2025 The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.},

abstract = {In peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing networks, each peer maintains its own repository, publishing files, downloading files from others, and making its own files available for download. We present P2Pedia, a distributed wiki system applying these principles to collaborative editing of documents: contributors may maintain their own version of each document, while accessing and reusing the contributions of others. This collaboration model, by allowing for multiple versions of a document, generates a different type of versioning hierarchy, and changes the semantics of wikilinks. We show how the versioning hierarchy of documents and the wikilinks create a graph of documents, that can be searched using an existing file-sharing infrastructure, and we propose some trust indicators to help users choose between available search results. Finally, we present the design and implementation of P2Pedia, and propose some scenarios where our proposed collaboration model is most appropriate. © 2011 IEEE.},
