abstract = {Much research has proven the effect of human capital on the organizational performance; the present study demonstrates how this causal relationship take place in the reality. In other words, in this research, first, organizational factors that cause human capital to flourish and be empowered are identified, and then their effects on the factors that shape the performance of an organization are identified. Hence, the main objective of this study was to examine the impact of the organizational factors empowering human capital on the organizational performance enablers. To do so, a questionnaire is administrated and Linear regression analysis using SPSS 22.0 applied for data analysis. According to the results, human capital empowerment factors have a statistically significant impact on the performance enablers. Finding disclosed that an effective performance evaluation system and effective leadership, which empower human capital in the organization, have a positive significant effect on the organizational performance. The findings indicate that organizations with an effective performance appraisal system and effective leadership not only provide a platform in which human capital is identified and grown, but also improve the factors that shape the performance of an organization. This research contributes to the literature on human resources, human capital, organizational management, and ultimately organizational performance. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.},

abstract = {In any human undertakings, success requires a sound strategy. Based on a narrative review, this conceptual paper discusses the concept of strategy, its manifestations in digital transformation, and a strategy for managing project front-end activities in this change process. Concretely, based on the underlying rationale, we highlight the multidimensional nature of strategy first and then its various manifestations in digital transformation. Finally, we present a strategy for managing project front-end activities in this process, some relevant tools, and techniques in addition to a metaphor meant to creatively generate supplemental insights into this strategy. Overall, this essay contributes to knowledge in information systems by enhancing two types of theory in this area, namely, the theory for analyzing and theory for design and action. © 2023 IEEE Computer Society. abstract = {COVID-19 has negatively affected business operations and drastically threatened different ongoing organizational changes. Digital transformation has been considered a unique way of improving performance and business operations in the new digital world. However, the immediate shutdown caused by the pandemic and the lack of preparation for implementing digital transformation influenced most industries. This chapter outlines the negative implications of COVID-19 on transferring to digital solutions as well as revealed prospects. In this regard, the outcomes of implementing digital transformation in several sectors are reviewed. Assessing these impacts addresses the benefits and drawbacks associated with digitalized solutions. We highlight the beginning of the year 2020, the announcement of the global pandemic, as an important timeline for evaluating the contributions of published papers. Furthermore, we emphasize that papers published following the epidemic in addition to considering the impacts should be included in future research studies in this field. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.},

abstract = {Survival is a priority for all organizations. This is especially true in periods of major change and crisis. Globalization heightens stress experienced during crises. Small businesses are most particularly vulnerable. Research demonstrates that organizations who understand and pursue innovation effectively can cope and exit crisis in a better competitive position than they were before. This chapter describes how organizations can mobilize innovation readiness to overcome crisis successfully by providing practitioners insights on the role of innovation and entrepreneurship to foster readiness to thrive through turbulent times. Accordingly, it addresses (1) the establishment and efficient usage of innovation management practices to attain higher levels of competitive performance, (2) the promotion of a culture of innovation to foster resilience and continuity, and (3) the development of innovation competencies to achieve competitive success and survival. Despite their vulnerability, SMEs are at an advantage because they can adapt and respond quickly to market, technology, society and environmental context changes. Achieving higher level of innovation readiness is therefore the best way to be prepared and thrive in spite (and thanks to) unexpected turbulence. © Hamid Etemad 2022. All rights reserved.},

abstract = {This chapter addresses a gap in the internationalization theory. It compares the internationalization of location-bound events and resources with the traditional theories of internationalization and points to their few similarities and mainly differences. Two in depth and longitudinal case-studies of highly popular and growing events in Montreal, Canada, prior to the emergence of COVID-19 crisis document significant differences between the traditional and location-bound internationalization, where international customers travel to Montreal to benefit from such events. These cases also point to the important impact of influential factors and evolving processes. They also uncover that communication and information technologies play critical roles in the internationalization outcomes over time. The longitudinal aspects of these case-studies also point to the indirect internationalization of complementary events and services over time due to their interactions with the other firms, and international customers at home during the internationalized local events. The chapter also discusses the managerial lessons, theoretical implications, and public policy recommendations, followed by a brief epilogue updating the status of the two cases at the end. © Hamid Etemad, Natasha Evers and Sören Kock 2021.},

abstract = {In today’s globalized world nationality has become a dynamic concept. During the period of nation state stability the flag under which a firm operated was fairly stable, however with the advent of firm mobility, extensive cross border mergers and acquisitions and global supply chains along with equally multinational distribution channels, the colour of the flag becomes often blurred. Furthermore, the rise and the collapse of international trade treaties and the agglomeration and occasional fracturing of nation super states, such as the European Union (EU), makes the problem a critical one. This article proposes an encompassing framework for evaluating nationality of a firm and examines the contentious status of several well-known firms where the colour of nationality is rapidly changing. © 2018, Czestochowa University of Technology. abstract = {NeuroIS uses tools such as electroencephalogram (EEG) that can be used to measure high brainwave frequencies that can be linked to human anxiety. Past research showed that computer anxiety influences how users perceive ease of use of a learning management system (LMS). Although computer anxiety has been used successfully to evaluate the usability of LMS, the main data collection mechanisms proposed for its evaluation have been questionnaires. Questionnaires suffer from possible problems such as being inadequate to understand some forms of information such as emotions and honesty in the responses. Quantum-based approaches to consciousness have been very popular in the last years including the quantum model reduction in microtubules of Penrose and Hameroff (1995). The objective of the chapter is to propose an architecture based on a NeuroIS that collects data by using EEG from users and then use the collected data to perform analytics by using a quantum consciousness model proposed for computer anxiety measurements for the usability testing of a LMS. © 2018, IGI Global. abstract = {This paper characterizes the internationalization of creative-cultural events through in-depth, longitudinal and ethnographic case-studies of two typical events. It develops four families of propositions based on the extant theory and tests them against their corresponding aspects of the two case-studies. This comparative examination indicates varying levels of supports; and also points to significant differences from traditional patterns of internationalizations processes. This paper's contributions are in identifying differences in such events’ internationalization pattern and suggesting theoretical explanation for them. A combination of firm-specific advantage (e.g., creative and cultural) and the event's home location-specific advantages offer a theoretical approach as they attract both the viewers and creative service-providers from the rest of the world to the home of these events. The paper explores the implication for further theoretical research, management of such events and public policy formulations. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd},

abstract = {The structural forms of companies on the market lifecycle change substantially as the lifecycle unfolds. These changes are both structural and topological in concert with what is happening in the market. The firm shapes and substance evolve in a fashion that suggests an environmental adaption dictated by the market or more precisely anticipated by the firms as they read the market signals. This article traces the logic that defines the modes and results of this adaptation. The lifecycle itself has been demonstrated to be a powerful device by the principal author and colleagues, in a series of articles, to be symmetrically predictive in time, forecasting both the future and the past. This predictive capacity applies to structural evolution of the firm and the constraints that the distinct organizational shape of the structure will place on the firm. Furthermore, knowing the present shape, one can define both the past and successor structures and their fit to the enabling environment. The environment itself can be traced to market deep and surface structures and the closely correlated strategy landscape dominant at each stage of the market. © Copyright© (2018) by American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). abstract = {In this article we examine the dynamics of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) from the perspective of Project Management (PM). The concept of lifecycle model has been around for many years now, yet much is to be gained by applying the same concept and analysis to retrieve and shed the light on key factors and dependencies of M&A strategy within the Market Life Cycle (MLC), the Firm Life Cycle (FLC) and the Product life cycle (PLC) model. Firstly, we will revisit these three life cycles that M&A strategy depends on. The M&A strategic project is easier to implement if these cycles are in similar phases where PM plays an essential role in the M&A process. Then we will present the comparative literature of both PM and M&A success factors where we have found a substantial overlap between the two. The main contribution of this article is to reinforce the existing studies on M&A related studies while emphasizing the importance of PM processes to undertake M&A venture with focus on some of the critical factors deemed relevant in lifecycle approach when extrapolated to M&A project. The article draws upon an empirical database of M&A activity in the hi-tech sector developed by post-graduate students over several years. © 2017, Czestochowa University of Technology.
