abstract = {Objective: Telepresence may play a fundamental role in establishing authentic interactions and relationships in online psychological interventions and can be measured by the Telepresence in Videoconference Scale (TVS), which was validated only with patients to date. This post hoc study aimed to validate the Italian version of the TVS with mental health professionals. Method: The Italian TVS was included in an online survey, whose primary aim was to assess the experiences of Italian psychologists and psychotherapists with online interventions during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and was filled in by 296 participants (83.4% females, mean age = 42 years old). Results: Exploratory factor analysis supported the original factor structure only partially because the scale ‘Absorption’ (i.e., the feeling of losing track of time), as it was formulated, did not measure telepresence. Correlations were also explored between the TVS scales and some survey items pertaining to intimacy and emotional closeness to patients, comfort and positive as well as negative experiences with online interventions. Conclusion: The TVS may be a useful tool to measure physical and social telepresence in online interventions, both in patients and in professionals. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.},

abstract = {Purpose: The present study aimed at investigating which sources of social support best account for pregnant women’s levels of psychological distress and mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: 274 Italian and Canadian expectant mothers completed an online-based survey including measures of perceived social support (from family, significant other and friends), state anxiety, depressive symptoms, and satisfaction with life. Correlation analyses and amultivariate analysis of covariance were performed to explore how social support from different sources was related to depressive symptoms, state anxiety and satisfaction with life. Results: Different sources of social support contributed to explaining women’s psychological distress and mental well-being. Social support both from family and friends was significantly related to women’s state anxiety and depressive symptoms. Social support from friends was specifically related to women’s satisfaction with life. Conclusion: Our findings endorse the crucial role of perceived social support as a protective factor for pregnant women’s mental health. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, our results suggest that support from family seems important in preventing psychological distress, whereas support from friends is also associated with mental well-being. These results may help designing future interventions aimed at improving women’s perinatal mental health in life-threatening conditions. ©, Society for Reproductive and Infant Psychology.},

abstract = {Parliamentary debates are usually published in Parliament’s websites to allows citizens to be informed on the latest national debates, proposals and decisions. To enhance citizen experience and engagement, functionalities such as debates annotation and question answering are necessary. Annotating text requires semantic content and ontologies are known for their ability to describe a common vocabulary for a domain and can be a solid base for annotation and question answering. We report on an ongoing study to enhance parliamentary analytics using an ontology and knowledge graph to sharpen annotations and facilitate their query by end-users. As a salient case, a sample of debates are collected on the COVID-19 impact in Canada, as its complexity shows the relevance of using advanced knowledge representation techniques. We focused on the development of a new “Impact of COVID-19 in Canada Ontology” (ICCO) that provides contextualized semantic information on impact in numerous policy areas, as this ontology is entirely built from Canadian parliamentary debates. It has been evaluated and validated by experts. Our conclusion underscores the importance of integrating ontology-driven parliamentary analytics within the broader context of digital transformation in legislative institutions, and the need for new platforms supporting free and open Digital Humanities. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.},

abstract = {The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on professional sports, notably, forcing the National Hockey League to hold its 2020 playoffs in empty arenas. This provided an unprecedented opportunity to study how crowds may influence penalties awarded by referees in an ecological context. Using data from playoff games played during the COVID-19 pandemic and the previous 5 years (n = 547), we estimate the number of penalties called by referees depending on whether or not spectators were present. The results show an interaction between a team's status (home; away) and the presence or absence of crowds. Posthoc analyses reveal that referees awarded significantly more penalties to the away team compared to the home team when there is a crowd present. However, when there are no spectators, the number of penalties awarded to the away and home teams are not significantly different. In order to generalize these results, we took advantage of the extension of the pandemic and the unusual game setting it provided to observe the behavior of referees during the 2020-2021 regular season. Again, using data from the National Hockey League (n = 1639), but also expanding our sample to include Canadian Hockey League games (n = 1709), we also find that the advantage given to the home team by referees when in front of a crowd fades in the absence of spectators. These findings provide new evidence suggesting that social pressure does have an impact on referees' decision-making, thus contributing to explain the phenomenon of home advantage in professional ice hockey. © 2021 Guérette et al.
